Trip Report-NYC/DC Fly By June 2014

Flew East for a family function in DC and decided to shoe horn in a trip to Gotham
**whenever possible take a detour to a hidden vista, a secret lake, or to NYC...in your final days you only regret the stuff you did NOT do!

Dream Hotel Downtown
ESB view from our room at Dream
Del Posto:

We love the Mondrian SoHo but decided to switch it up. Great location a block from Chelsea Market and The Highline. Rooms are tight but fun. Upgrade to Gold level for exceptional views of the ESB. Lobby lounge DJ spinning hip hop...love! PHD on roof spinning Pop which was forgivable because the views up there were unreal.

Forgot how flawless the execution is at this place. Met a friend for pre ballet impromptu dinner. Octopus, 100 Layer Lasagna, Amuse...fantastic. 8/10 stars

9/11 Museum:

Like many, I lost a friend that day. Museum is a beautiful space that tells the story with grace.  10/10 stars

NYC Ballet - A Midsummer Nights Dream:

I'm not sure I've seen ballet or heard and orchestra before this. Wow. Just wow. 9/10 stars

Daniel:

Daniel

We didn't love DB Bistro Modern a few years ago but Daniel is something other worldy. If you are a fan of The French Laundry and per se you'll be right at home. Each course felt innovative yet time tested. Bursting with flavor and plated to perfection. 10/10 stars

From NYC we flew down to DC to celebrate my cousin, a Meyerhoff Scholar, who copped his pHd from Cornell in Applied math. I have no idea what any of that is, I just figure he must be smart. Anyway, we managed to stuff in a little food, wine, etc in DC....shocker....I know!  here are some highlights from DC

Capella Georgetown:
Creek Side Dinning at The Capella

Special little 5 star in DC on the Canal just of M street. Perfect combination of lush, sexy sophistication. Rye Bar in the lobby was a hit as well. We would mos def stay there again. 9/10 Stars

Lounge at Burbon Steak and The Four Seasons:

Beautiful property and a lively lounge til at least 12 or 1a. SOLID Whiskey offerings too.  8/10 Stars
National Gallery of Art:

G in front of The National Gallery of Art

Spectacular museum in the heart of DC's Museum Row. I thought I wasn't into 16-18 Century European art. I am now! Not to be missed!! 9/10 Stars

Civil Cigar:

Civil Cigar

I love a cigar lounge that is a chill enough space to make no smokers WANT to go there. My wife LOVED it. Solid humidor and spirits selection with NON big city pricing. 8/10 Stars

Komi:

I was fully prepared to have an average meal at this greek inspired, no menu, no photos, tasting menu joint with an OK dinning room. DAMN!! was I wrong. Daniel is Daniel but this place was exceptional! Some courses were very tweezer and squeeze bottle and others were super simple....the meat course was a huge helping of deboned goat and another plate of deboned pork (crackling included) with tatziki and other dippers on the side. EVERY course was somewhere between excellent and seizure inducing good!! MUST. GO. BACK. SOON!! 9/10 Stars

Thanks for Reading!
