Roka Akor: Happy Hour Flo

Roka Akor
Roka Akor is the offspring of a series of Japanese restaurants dotted around the globe, called simply Roka.  The name and the restaurant Roka akoR were meant to be a literal and figurative reflection of Roka.  Now there are a bunch of those "reflections" in big food cities (San Fran, Chicago).  I've been going to Roka since it arrived in the valley 5 plus years ago.  The happy hour here is off the damn chains!! For the month of September they are doing their happy hour menu from OPEN TO CLOSE EVERY DAMN NIGHT!  Ok so it's only available at the bar but I'd almost always rather sit at the bar,  Win. Win.

Bar at Roka Akor

Standard happy hour discount's apply.  Figure 10-15% off regular pricing.  Three bucks off wine by the glass.  Usually, discount, by the glass wine sucks.  It's usually stuff you wouldn't drink at any price.  Not the case here.  Roka understands that few things pair with Sushi like White Burgundy.  Enter Domaine Costals fantastic value Chablis, Les Truffiers.  A lightly oaked Chardonnay with a perfect mineral tinge.   For red they have another personally reviewed favorite by the glass, Robert Sinskey POV.  Bottom line: your wine needs WILL be met.

Food wise you are, again, spoiled for choice.  Our favorites are the Butterfish Tataki, Roast Duck and Kimchi Udon, and Lobster Tacos.  There are a number of rolls and other food options which are solid as well.  The atmosphere at the bar is upscale and lively.  This place is a hit.

Roka Akor is a worthy desert destination.  The lively bar,  excellent wines and great food make it a frequent hit for us.  The all night happy hour just assured that our visits this month will be more frequent.  Check it out.

Thanks for reading!
